There is a Chinese proverb which states, “If you plan for a year, sow the seed; If you plan for a decade, plant a tree and If you plan for a century, educate the people”. The founder members of this institution had this noble ideal in mind when they started this college.
It is said that when a person crosses a river, he ought not to forget that he has left the other bank behind. This college has seen the light of the day due to the Herculean efforts of some of the elders of Ilayangudi. Janab. Ameen Nainar Howth sounded the idea of establishing an Arts and Science College in Ilayangudi.
The unique feature of this college was that unlike other colleges, this College was not started by any single rich man or business people…

“The motto of the college is a verse of the Holy Quran revealed to Prophet Mohamed (Peace be on him) “READ IN THE NAME OF THY LORD”. With this aim, the college aims at providing higher education to the rural people in and around Ilayangudi, especially the marginalized people of this locality.”
Prof. S.E.A Jabarullah Khan – Principal
Professor S.E.A. Jabarullah Khan joined Dr. Zakir Husain College in 1995.He is an Alumnus of this institution. He was the Gold medalist in Alagappa University, M.Phil Degree Examination, June, 2011. He had previously served Wakf Board college, Madurai for THREE years (1993 – 1995). With 3 decades of teaching experience and passion for quality in the various stakes of the institution, he has been a source of inspiration and strength to the College since 1995.
The Department of Chemistry rose to limelight during his Headship. He steered the department to produce Gold Medalists (l – Rank) in Alagappa University Final Examination consecutively for eight years (2009 – 2017). With his multifaceted caliber and dedication for the cause of holistic development of the learners he has contributed his might in various capacities apart from teaching…

The unique feature of this college was that unlike other colleges, this College was not started by any single rich man or business people. Rather, this college was started by the ordinary citizens who have the thirst to start an educational institution for higher education in their locality. A membership fee of Rs.11/- each was collected and every citizen of Ilayangudi has contributed to the emergence of the College.
