Ms. S. Veeraramya, a second year PG Tamil student, participated in the Kalaignar Centenary Jubilee Essay Competition held between the colleges in Sivagangai district and won the second prize. The winning student was felicitated by the Principal of the college, Prof. S.E.A. Jabarullah Khan greeted the gathering. Mrs. A. Xavier Rani, Head of the Department and Dr. P. Sasikala, Assistant Professor.
The unique feature of this college was that unlike other colleges, this College was not started by any single rich man or business people. Rather, this college was started by the ordinary citizens who have the thirst to start an educational institution for higher education in their locality. A membership fee of Rs.11/- each was collected and every citizen of Ilayangudi has contributed to the emergence of the College.
